Phil Lynott's Bass On Irish Ad Site for €25k...
Looks legit and comes not far from where the great man lived.
Wholly sh!t , that s some price in there !
Are there pics of him playing that bass? It doesn't look familiar
While probably no Gary Moore when it comes down to owning and collecting instruments, I'd guess Mr. Lynott had quite a selection of basses over the years.
He probably bought and sold them as almost all of us do, for all sorts of reasons.
That one isn't ringing any bells with me either though, but I was more into his music that the gear he used at the time.
And still am.
Many of us are into his music... me too, I didn't remember any '57 P with '51 neck...
with a '51 kinda neck
If you read the comments, the seller seems to be a bit of a jerk. Plus they've had five withdrawn ads, including an autographed Madonna boot, and a signed Ali boxing glove. Feedback score is 2. Doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence.
Phil Lynott' basses
Some time ago a British guitar magazine ran an article on some of Phil's basses that were for sale. Complete with pictures. There was also an article in an issue of bass player.
Which says the following:
Though Phil Lynott is most often associated with two particular Fender Precision Basses (stock models with rosewood and maple necks), he played a wide variety of other axes throughout his career. In the early days, he favored Rickenbackers, plucking both 4000 and 4001 models. He also played a Dan Armstrong lucite bass, in addition to Ibanez Roadstars and Blazers. Later, he used a Roland G-88 Synth Bass with the electronics removed.
Most of Lizzy's gear was in storage in London when Phil passed away. Some of it appears to have been sold or "liberated" not long after his sad demise. For example, one of his radio wireless sets was doing the rounds for quite some time.
Personally, I think it is highly unlikely that this is one of his basses. Unless there is photographic evidence of him playing it I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
That's what gets to me. The model is one he played and there are loads of pics of him playing different basses, but I've never seen that one. Hell if it was put together for him and he never used it the bass would have been owned by him and not have any value to me personally (aside from it's value as a bass). Hell the BC Rich he used in a music video has more value despite his not plugging it in and using it live.
I'm with Cicero, without evidence I'd give this one a wide berth.
