Yes they are North drums! At the time of the photo they were purchased new by my guitarist's brother. (With the towel on his head.) My guitarist then bought them from him for his basement jam room after he moved into his house. They weren't really working for the classic rock we were playing so he traded them to a drummer friend on mine for a set of Tama Superstars.

Here's my drummer buddy on stage with them in Mt.Airy N.C.

The chicks seem to dig a set of drums that look like urinals!

As far as the basement goes, it's really the "sunken" den of the house party that where played our first ever gig. Here's another photo that was taken from the kitchen.

I no longer have the mullet, but I am still playing with the guitarist on the far left!

Here's another recent photo.

(Sorry about the music stands but we're old guys that did way too many drugs in our youth!)

BTW: Since we have such a huge number of bassists on here. If anyone out there has a bass like this with the Klira name removed and 'HOFNER' on the headstock in stick-on letters... that's my old bass... please contact me!
High Waters LOL!!!! I remember those days.

Not such a cool bass to me now with all the VH tape but it was the first. After some heavy playing on the jazz copy, I upgrade to an Gibson RD Artist.

My first Bass was a used EKO hollow violin. Picture taken in 1972 when I was 14, later that year I got a brand new Fender P for Xmas

I think that those Eko violin basses are STILL cool.

here's the oldest pic of me playing my first bass in 1966 (a 1964 St. George).

HI John, that's a great pic, I love to see pics like this circa 1960's and 1970's I never had a chance to see a St. George, from what I can see the body looks a little like a mustang. Were they good instruments and nice to play?

I am really stoked about having youo build my custom Short Scale Jazz bass, can't wait till holidays are over and then I will get you out the deposit and we can finalize the details. I checked your site out and your basses are simply awesome and so many members speak so highly of you. Have a great holiday season.

Thanks Sal. i'm looking forward to the build.

the st. George's were actually pretty cool basses. they had a 34" scale and were made out of mahogany (neck and body). I wanted to have my first bass back again so much that I looked for years to find another one. it took me 10years but I found two of them. here's a pic of the one that I have today, and it plays much better due to having a perfectly straight neck. (my first one had a huge front bow that couldn't be adjusted out!):

Very Nice! I can see why you wanted to find one and understand why it tooks so long to track some down, this is the first time I have gotten a good look at one.

This one is from my very first gig, December 9, 1977 at the now long gone Howard AFB Youth Center. Gibson G-3 and a matching Gibson G-50B combo amp.
