ymmv, obviously, and that's just my personal pref!!!! | I agree, but it doesn't always work out. I once played (actually 3 times) at a place where the space for the band was very small. It was also right next to the walk in refrigerator. Not only did I have to turn every time they went in or out of it so my neck wasn't in the way, but the drummer had to set up on top of it, ten feet in the air. I not only had no eye contact with him, but couldn't hear the kick drum. It was quite an adventure playing there. In between sets I almost always had someone ask me why we had prerecorded drums, since they didn't notice the drummer. I would just point up.
I earned my $80 those nights.

The black Ric has Rotosound rounds and the Fireglo has LaBella flats.
