as you see---right around $3K is quoted

TolerancEJ 02-07-2013 11:47 PM

Still beyond my reach. I am hoping this model will be a success and maybe they will release an affordable SE model later.

JAUQO III-X 02-07-2013 11:54 PM

Here you can here what the new model sounds like.

Nice sounding bass.

Nice eye candy, but i think there are a little out of reach for the masses.

IronLung1986 02-08-2013 12:43 AM

i like that blue one with the maple board. they're expensive but if they sound as nice as they look people will buy them. people buy foderas after all and those cost like 4 times as much.

body style is decent.. they will need to be way more inventive on finishes tho... those glitzy "same as guitar" tops just dont do it for me

I find that to be a fun change of pace from the bass norm.

I think change from the norm is good, but the PRS bass reminds me too much of their guitar. That's one reason I don't care for Les Paul basses.

Maybe it'll grow on me. But as discussed in another thread, the fiver seems to have narrow string spacing which would be a deal-killer for me regardless.

Really? I saw 2 Graingers at the NAMM show and they were 8K each. They look to be very well made.

The prices are correct. This is a new line, inspired by the original Grainger models.

Pretty nice looking to me, and nicely featured versus the last run they took at bass (that sort of J Bass model with the 'all or nothing' preamp switch... not good). The price for these actually seems quite reasonable, given the fancy tops and custom electronics IMO. Pretty much right in the middle of other 'hi end' bass pricing.

Hey, nice pic in the new Bass Player Magazine Jauqo. Sounds like the Detroit Bassfest was another success. I didnt' realize that Jean Luc Ponty was there jamming with Ralphe. Did they have that right? That is historic!

Sorry for the OT!

Root 5 02-08-2013 08:09 AM

I think the new PRS bass is the nicest looking one they've ever produced.

The only reason their past attempts failed was because they were unspeakably ugly instruments - I have NO idea what PRS was thinkin.'

If the prices are reasonable and the tones are there - they'll sell these.

Cool website... =) First time I have seen that site!

Thanks Ken and yes the DBF 2012 was a blast for sure. And no Jean Luc Ponty was not there :)

A good group of players, but I think this is a better representation of the sound though....

The youtube clip with the 4 bass players does not do the sound of the basses any justice. I was at that show and the PRS basses sounded really nice.

And the clip you provide the bass sounds nice as well.

VincentGrim 02-08-2013 08:46 AM

They look really neat, but it seems to me that trying to release a $3k bass when they've failed in the bass market twice prior is a bit, idk, a bit unrealistic? I mean, they'll be made in small batches and certainly aren't for the masses, but still...

I didn't think so. Maybe I read that piece incorrectly, but I think Bass Player reported he was. Strange!

Unspeakably ugly? Regardless whether you care for the PRS style, the first generation of basses weren't "unspeakably ugly" by any reasonable standards.

smcd 02-08-2013 08:52 AM

When Ferarri introduces a new model, do you carp about affordability, and wonder when Ferarri are going to release a hybrid commuter car?

If you can't afford a PRS guitar, the new basses aren't for you.
