Played a 70's Fender P bass

Had no idea my buddy had this. He's a guitarist and it was his old mans. His dad bought it when he was 15. Had a good tone and was fun to jam on!

Couple of photos:

Yea, I believe it was a 70 something. Didn't feel too hefty. Killer tone.

And i'm not a "this is vintage so it sounds good" kind of guy. This really did sound good!

If I saw that bass for a good price in a guitar shop, I'd take that home for sure. I like that color.

I'm not a p bass guy either but I do admire their simplicity and place in music history. I'm a Gibson kinda guy but even I like using P once and a while

I wasn't a P bass guy either, until December of 2011. Now I own three, and always have one with me at practice.

I don't think you're supposed to say "not a P bass guy" on talkbass. ;-)

They'll get over it or they won't. I'm just not a Fender guy at all, let alone a P.

Yeah, it seems like a sacrilege, doesn't it? After a P bass is 'the' bass, everything else is just competing for second place.

Cool indeed. This dates to 1974-early 1976, based on the headstock logo and position of the thumbrest, BTW.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

I'm not a P bass guy either and I've never even considered owning a fender, but I do respect that P basses do what they do well. If it wasn't for my Yamaha BB fretless, I might've gone for a vintage (original or re-issue) P bass for that buttery tone on the mellow stuff.

I have a P with tort and flats, it's got .105-.050 d'addario chromes, I call it my workout bass. Playing it is like resistance training for my hands.

great looking p bass I'm guessing 74-76.

I have a sincere question for all of the non-fender players. Have you ever played Blues Bass; live, for money, in a band?

Hehehe......nice try, MBP, but you know how humans are! They can't resist an opportunity to turn even a simple, complimentary thread into a battle of opinions.

I think it's cool that you found yourself liking the tone from that mid-70's P bass.
