| A Pleasant Surprise Hey TB,
I wouldn't exactly call myself a gear snob; I play an OLP Stingray as my main bass. However, I guess in the back of my mind I am a bit snobby about certain things. If I decide a brand is crap, it's crap. (not a desirable quality, I know)
Anyway, I was at an older friend's house for dinner the other night. He's a fantastic musician; I've played for him a couple of times and his ear for arrangement is astounding. He brought down this Westfield acoustic bass as a 'conversation piece'. As a rule, I hate Westfield and I hate acoustic basses. I played it to be polite and was BLOWN AWAY. It was a nice player; good string tension, decent fret job, held tune etc. and it sounded good! The body was a decent size too- the same area as my Stingray, though deeper obviously. Apparently the piezo's dodgy on the E string, but sure that's easy fixed.
So I've learned my lesson! Never judge a bass by its headstock, or you could miss out on something sweet!
Anyone have any similar experiences?
Connor
