It is not the job of perspective buyers to educate sellers. And besides, you said you didn't know what it was either; not that that really matters... it is what it is.
Enjoy you great find. |

The seller was ignorant of it's value. I picture some older fellow who probably bought it new for $400.00, thinking it had to have depreciated... | I WISH this sort of thing would go on all the time! In my 36, almost 37 years on the planet, this is the FIRST time something like this has ever happened to me. And don't start pulling the whole jesus angle and recommending "churchin'". The guy posted an ad on the internet, so he's obviously savvy enough to know how to use a computer, so he could have taken an extra 5 minutes to search the SN#, then go on Ebay and see what they are going for. He didn't. He got his asking price. I took it home, did some homework on it, got a pleasant surprise, cleaned all the grime off of it, shined it up, new strings, intonated it and it's a done deal.
I don't cheat on my girlfriend, I hardly drink, I work as a nurse in a pediatric intensive care unit, help people out whenever I can, and I pay my taxes. I'd call myself a standup citizen for the most part, so go troll somewhere else, Mr. Ethiccs!

I'll be honest and admit that i'm jealous! lol.
Seriously awesome though, give it the best home it could ever have and rub it with a diaper everyday! LOL (reference from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" about the Ferrari).
Oh yeah and if you are inclined to, give him/her a good name and a grand welcome to the family!

They go in the parking lot and kid opens up the original tweed case (great shape of course)and shows a Fullerton '57 reissue sunburst p supposedly bought for him by his granny that he never learned to play.
Buddy asks what were you thinking you want. How does $40 sound? I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen the bass and know how honest my friend is.
I told him I would of had to have given him $100 at least.

It's like you said, he knows how to use a computer and he could have tried to search for the real value. It's HIS fault the you scored big. I've scored some killer gear at pawnshops recently. The last 3 good scores in the last 2 months for me was a '66 Fender P-Bass w/OHSC for $140, '96 Larrivee D-05 Acoustic w/OHSC for $207, and last week I a '90 Fender MIJ '57 RI P-Bass for $125. I didn't feel bad or guilty for any of them. Everyone has the same chance to research and find the correct price, but they're lazy and choose not to. Way to go on your KILLER score.

Now, back on topic, if you want to date that P-bass you could start off by telling it how pretty it looks. Maybe crack some jokes to show that you have a sense of humor. Make sure you get her phone number and wait about 3 days before calling. |

If I buy something and in 2 years the selling price appreciates 50% do I owe the original seller something? What if it appreciates in 1 month (say a big name player suddenly starts playing the same bass model)? Just trying to understand my "moral" obligations when buying gear. |
