I'm not religious at all. I never said anything about stealing. I posed a hypothetical question about something that was left behind and it was "finders keepers". your post count has absolutely nothing to do with how often you READ these forums. You can justify your feelings any way you choose. You can call me names if you want. I only told the truth about how I feel about the situation. Tough if you don't like it. You think I'm a douchbag. I think you took advantage of an ignorant person. I'd rather be a douchebag.
Enjoy your bass. |

Asking price was paid and agreed upon, all is well in my book. Anyone who tries to make you feel you have some "moral or ethical obligation" is either jealous or trolling. Don't pay them any attention, they're not worth your time. Now rock that bass!

| | | | Let's turn it around a bit. What if you went to a mom and pop music store and you were charged double list for something? When you found out, how would you feel? They just ripped you off! Would you go back and demand some of your money back or would it be okay because you were ignorant? Would you be posting all over TalkBass telling people never go to that store because the ripped you off? Would the store be morally right, for taking you to the cleaners just because you didn't know any better?
Whatever. The point seems to be lost, anyway.
All I was trying to say, to start with, was I (ME, my mother's child and the father of MY children) would feel an obligation to inform this ignorant person of their mistake and give them the option to do refund the cash. Call me stupid, but I would feel better about myself.
Last time I'll say it. |

| | Registered User | | | | | Because this thread has gone a little off the rails and off-topic, I thought it might be good for me to give my impressions of this bass after having two days to play it. Remember, I am not a bass player, but for some reason I can't play with a pic and have to use my fingers (probably from the fact that I prefer to finger pick guitar and play banjo) but have a lot of bassists that I admire (Daryyl Jennifer, John Stirratt, Carlos Dengler, Paul Simonon, Colin Greenwood, Mike Rutheford).
So as I mentioned earlier, I took the bass to the repair shop that sets up all my instruments. They took one look at it, played it, looked it over real quick and said it needed absolutely nothing. Neck was perfect, action perfect, I intonated it yesterday, and was good to go. Now all I have to play it through is a crummy BX40, but after messing around with it for a little while it sounds half decent. Actually, this bass sounds huge, even through the 40watt practice amp. I can already tell that it will sound amazing through the SVT tomorrow, and it just has this growl. I'm not sure if that's mostly due to the Dimarzio pickup, or if that's just the way these older P-basses sound, but it's pretty darn sweet!

Last time I'll say it. | I would feel bad about it for a minute or two and then move on. They were upfront about how much it costs and I agreed to it. I'd learn from the experience and do more research the next time. That's called being an adult. Only a child would expect what you're preaching. Caveat emptor. |

| | Registered User | | | | | just yesterday a good friend of mine bought a bass for a price that almost made me fall over. seller was fully aware it was a good deal-sellers reason was that he had made enough money with that bass over the years.
last week i made a deal on a bass that was beyond unbelieveable; seller agreed to the price i offered.
we do not know the circumstances of the seller-for all we know god could have told him that today he would bless someone...who knows? maybe he didnt need the money
a deal was made and that is it.
perhaps a situation happened like this one to stone and it is an unpleasant reminder. we don't know...

I am a full blown Christian man...100%. I do not see anything wrong with giving someone their asking price for a musical instrument. Not sure of your motive for all of this, Stone.
I once picked up a 74 Jazz off Craigslist for $700. I couldn't believe the fact that I responded to the add first! Drove 100 miles that day to get it. I sold it for almost triple that, and have been waiting for another deal like that for 5 years now!
I also remember my early 20's when down on my luck, I "sold" a 73 Tele, 77 Rick, early Svt 8x10 for basically nothing to a music store. No one held a gun to my head. I needed the money, and the buyer had the money.
