Please help me out to identify this bass! I am clueless!

So i am strapped for cash, looked at my local classified ads and found a ''Fender Squier 1989 made in Korea'' for 100 dollars. A few minor dings and scratches.

The Serial Number starts with: E9...so it's a 1989 Squier

It look essentially like this:

Except mine has different knobs, 2 input jacks, 2 on/off switches.

I don't know how to tell if it is a legitimate Fender first of all.
If i type: "Squier HM 1989 5 string'' in google i get similar basses.

So whats with my electronics? Any help on that.
Is this bass ''legitimate'' other than the mods.

Looks like someone Rick-O-Sounded a Korean HM Squier! Cool. Needs more thumb rests though.

The thumb rest, finger rest, control cavity cover, knobs and electronics are all changes/additions to your bass. The Elderly bass is the same as yours was before all those modifications were done to it.

Saw that bass in the Montreal area online classifieds starting last week. It's definitely a Squier HM series 5 string on which someone did some customizing. The seller was originally asking $250 and then dropped the price to $150 and now it looks like you scored it for $100.
At that price it's a fabulous deal and a pretty interesting looking bass. It certainly caught my eye, but I passed because I can't grab EVERY cool bass on Montreal Kijiji.
If you got that bass for $100 you definitely did fine. Nice bass!

So i brought it to my luthier.
We opened it up. Pickups where wired separately.
It was properly shielded. Everything was well done.

But what would be the purpose of running separate outputs for pickups? I guess insane amount of control over tone and sound by running into 2 separate amps?

Is there anyway of identifying the pickups?
They have no branding, marks or anything!


(The bass itself is in great condition, slightly warped neck and rusty strings but asides from that...it will be good as new after a tune up!)

That is a very cool pickup setup. You basically have a P-Bass you can run in its regular single pickup configuration AND a single pickup jazz bass. I like it!
