Oh well if you insist....
It's a 1980 4001 Fretless. It is about as pristine as it appears (I've seen "new" basses at GC in worse shape). I've played it a ton but I've always been extremely careful about taking care of this one. For years I had it strung with rounds but having had the fretboard recently refinished I figure its time to pay this old baby the respect it deserves and let it live out its days with flats.
That said, much to my surprise I really love the bass with flats. Not surprisingly it gives it a nice warm thumpy (but still growly) tone that is still very Rickenbacker.
Given that there aren't a ton of Ric fretlesses around, when I post I usually get a request for a sound file so here it is; Ric Sound File 1.mp3
Its recorded straight into a Tascam portable recorder. No EQ. No Effects. Both PUPs firing for all songs. I do adjust my playing position and style somewhat though. Four segments are; Kansas, Rush, Maiden & Blues (just to give some range). Normally I would play the Rush & Maiden segments with my Fretted/Roundwound bass but I wanted to show four different song styles on this bass.
Question for others: How do you get the big pics up on this site? I seem to be only able to get smaller pics.
