Here's my two Matsumoku Vantages:
Left: Vantage VS695B - fretless, based on the serial number a 1983. This one has been played, and has a bit of wear on the body and a few small dings and dents.
Right: Vantage VS600B - fretted, from the serial number a 1980. It's like brand new, no dings, scratches, mint.
Both have fast, slim necks. The VS600B seems to lack some mids, and has head dive that is unbelievable. It weighs a ton! I think a different pickup would make this into a real growler, and I could live with the neck dive.
The VS695B has a great tone, is a little lighter and very playable. It's my second favourite bass in my small collection. I love playing this bass...
The three four year difference in age means different tuners, different logo style on the headstock, different knobs, and different bridges. It's interesting to see the evolution between the years, since both seem stock and unmolested (and match what I see in promo material from the day).
I may eventually trade out the VS600B, but I don't think I could part with the VS695B...

Reason: 1980 - 1983 is *four* years, not three

| | | Question for everyone here.... can anybody ID this Greco? Year, model, etc? Any insight would be appreciated! I've got a chance to pick this up on the relatively cheap and I'm wondering if it'd be a good investment!
Trying to do some research myself has proved confusing. Most of the Greco's I find have a different tail piece. Also, the three way selector is usually either in a different location or it is just 2 "on/off" sliders on the lower horn.

A "Telstar" bought in 1977 for $75 & kept until I graduated in '81. Never learned to play well & sold it. Now I'm 50 & have only been playing for 3 years now
