Neck Pocket date? - NO, Under Pickups... Yes, mine was in the pickup cavity, but had been sprayed over... and as delicately as we tried it was unreadable.

It is a great bass and, for sure, the best neck ever! IMHO (of course)

I get a kick out of the stereotypical cigarette burn mark... mine has one

Thanks for the details, appreciate the help. Dating one of these things is really a science...

Thanks, yeah from the pics the finish appears in great shape on the front side but there's checking and, on the back, belt buckle rash down to the wood. According to Elderly Instruments it's all original. I'm still awaiting my tracking number so probably won't have it in hand for a week yet but will definitely post some more pics when I have it.

Bass arrived Monday, first thing I did was change out the rounds for some TI flats and after a some minor intonation adjustments to the saddles she was ready to play. Here's a quick phone pic from this morning:

Another phone pic:

Love the bass. Had my first gig with it tonight, just a superb P-bass, perfect tone and the playability is a good as they come. Nice wide/thin C neck, super low action, effortless to play. It's a keeper!

Thanks! Yeah and original hardshell case too. Here's a "glamor" pic from Elderly Instruments where I bought it:

It's no case queen, plenty of buckle rash on the back side but the front is really clean.

Yes, according to Elderly it's all original (and from what I can tell).

Here's a pic of the backside rash:

Yeah it's been played but well taken care of. There's plenty of surface scratches and dings but nothing major. The last owner (also a TB member) told me he had the bass for some 15 years and didn't use it much except for recording so for at least that long it didn't get much use. That's going to change now that it's mine.

Relax.
Hear your breath.
Concentrate on nothing.
Focus yourself on my voice.
You will do everything I'll tell you.
And you will forget what happened when I say "best bass for metal".
Hear it and do it:
put the second bass, the '57 in a secure box and ship it to my adress.

When you're back home, you'll read the next words and wake up:

best bass for metal.
