Precision Bass with white pickup covers, years?

Does anyone know which years the MIA Precision Bass (not Elite) came with white pickup covers? I had one myself that I always thought was an '86/87. I sold it about 15 years ago, so it's much too late to check now as I never took a note of the serial number. I know for certain that the covers were never changed on it. Just curious, since the only ones I've seen has been from around 1983. Also, was it optional or were they all white in that period? Or was it even a non-standard version, like the newer Specials or Highway 1's?

That's right, it also had a single ply white PG. Don't remember the bridge, other than the crappy saddles that would unscrew when playing. The E3-series went on to 1985 (end CBS), so it's not likely to have been made after that. But most probably 1983.

Mostly 1983, as others have said.

Haha, i've wanted one for a LONG time, as 1983 is my birth year... a white pickup Fender P is one of my dream basses.

The precision special of 1980/1982 also had white pickup covers.

Yay, I just found an old picture of the headstock. It's really unsharp, but having scanned and studied it, I could figure out the serial number; E323734. This means it was made in 1982-1985.
