What's the overall length on the 705? I've got one on the way and I'm looking for cases/bags to fit. I've got a couple candidates, but I need to know the total length of the bass.
Thanks

Hi. The overall length is approximately 48". Right now I am using my old Road Runner gig bag that I bought at Guitar Center. It fits just right with no wiggle room. I do want another I've though. Let me know what you ended up getting.

Well, I can say for sure that the Reunion Blues Continental Bass bag DOES fit the proto j 705. It's a little snug, but after I got the bass in and out of it a couple times it seemed to fit better. It is definitely a nice bag. Huge step up from the roadrunner that came with mine. Not as much external storage as the RR, but pretty much everything I would bring to a gig fit fine. I got mine on sale from Amazon ($139+ shipping).

Bought my Proto-J 5er a few years back and I love it. Great slap tone, great fingerstyle tone, and it feels like it just wants to be played. It is a little large and heavy, but it's never been a problem for me, and certainly not a deal breaker.

I like the looks of a white J705 I saw online for $795. Don't know if it comes with a bag or not. Seems like the length of this bass is an issue. Did yours come with a case? If not, what did you get that fit? It is 35" scale, right?

Thanks!

I got mine on consignment, and it didn't come with a case. I believe it is a 35" bass, so it's just a tad longer than most basses out there. I used a generic gig bag that i had already, but the fit was a little to tight, and the stitching started to rip. I found a Levy's double bass bag at the Atlanta Bass Gallery that fit it nicely. They're nice and padded, good shoulder straps, and did I mention it's a double-wide?

I had one I use to love it. I upgraded it with an audere preamp, later that was swapped for a Sadowsky

You could reshape the headstock and make it about 1" shorter.I can fit mine in most cases now.

The basses don't seem to have much of a resale value and I think the headstock shape is not all that nice anyway.

Just purchased a used one, natural finish. Not heavy at all, great tone with all stock parts. So far a love it, sounds and feels like a vintage Fender. Had to construct my own battery cover on the back, the original one was lost. Brooklyn Gear has terrible customer service so you are on your own if you need a part.

Amazing after all that time they are still bad with customer service? I guess they don't care.

I have the 5-string too! Many of you have complained about its weight, but that is not an issue with mine. It is actually lighter than my Marcus Miller 4-string. Especially the body.
Compared to my Marcus, I feel the KSD has a fatter tone when I play both passive. She has a little less mids and tone in the low register, but I like that in a live setting. You can get more tone of the KSD by playing it active, but I find the electronics to sound a bit boxy and cheap. I think I am going a upgrade the pickups first and see how that turns out before thinking of getting a preamp. I had a sadowsky preamp for my miller, but I found the bass to sound best just passive. I am really into the natural sound of the instrument. I love to have the ability to do all the dynamic and compression in my fingers. The neck feels great, it came with low action witch I love. I lowered it even more, and got a little buzz on the highest E on the A-string, 19-fret. I filed the buzzing fret down a bit, and now it plays great. The frets arent us good as the miller, but the price isnt the same either.
For now I choose the KSD in a live setting and the miller in the studio
