Question About Bass I Just Won on Ebay
 

I have this 5 string jazz bass coming my way. I entered a bid of $250 and no one tried to outbid me. I couldn't find another close to this price. Did I miss something? I'm a little nervous now. Let me know if the link works. I'm posting from my phone.

Besides the fact that he's charging 70$ to ship it, which would put it pretty close to the price of other MIM basses, I don't see anything really weird.

You're paying via PayPal with credit card, so you have buyer protection on your side.

The seller did not disclose any issues with the bass. He says it's in good condition.

$250 plus shipping is an approximate price you might expect for this instrument. I'm assuming that you realize you bid on a Standard Jazz, not American Standard Jazz. The Standard series are made in Mexico. (Nothing wrong with that; many great instruments are being constructed there.) I just don't want you to think that you won an auction for an American Standard for $250. Now, that would have been a killer bargain.

I had an early Fender MIM 5 and it was a great bass...you did ok.

Seems like the tuning keys have been upgraded, but I might be wrong since I'm not a proper fender guy :D

Well, you got the best deal currently on eBay for this bass, FWIW.

It's funny how things work out, I bought one for under $400 new in 2003! In fact, it was the first bass I bought myself.

The tuners do not look upgraded, the 5-inline Gotoh tuners were stock on the MIMs from 2001 until the redesign in 2009 I'm pretty sure. Serial starts with MZ7, indicating this is a 2007 model. It's a 2nd generation MIM standard - meaning alder body as opposed to poplar and appropriate sized J pickups (rather than same sized for both front and back). I had one for 5 years, and I loved it.
