Interesting.

The radius is 1.5". It is quite comfortable to play.
It sounds great.

I guess my only question would be how the sharp curvature impacts on my ability to get from notes on the G to E string notes. I'd try it but I'll bet a lot of others wouldn't. Seems like things that look too different get under a lot of folks' insecurity and shake their confidence. Consider how little an audience cares whether the bass part in the music they are dancing to was produced by a traditional Fender bass or the lid from a garbage can. Good sound and playability is good sound and playability.

At least we can still feel superior to the guitarists, who won't play it if it's not a Strat, LP, Ibby or a half dozen other "acceptable" guitars. You'd see a garbage can lid bass loooooongg before a similar guitar!!

Your playing is marvelous!

Nice work with the bass design/execution; but not my cup of tea - in that I don't HEAR anything otherwise special about it.

I suspect you would sound just as marvelous on any number of typical basses.

YMMV, and no offense intended. Great stuff.

I'd love to try this out! I'm definitely a big fan of the old Fender 7.25" radius over any of the more modern 9.5, 10, 12, or 16 inch radiuses used by other builders. I have no idea what I'd think of that 1.5" radius, but I'd love to find out...

Very interesting. I'd bet it would be more difficult for people with smaller hands, but loads easier for those with long fingers. Also, for those who aren't double jointed, I'd bet that this bass is way easier to double thumb. I'm not sure about slapping, but I bet it would work just fine for that, too. There'd surely be different positioning involved, but that might get me to play differently, too!

Really cool. Update us on how things are progressing with that!

Great job looks like a lot of work went into that, my input would be;

1) As mentioned neck radius, I do prefer flatter necks but have not tried that one it may work for me.

2) I agree with IPYF about his concerns as a sitting instrument.

3) I would think about some sort of composite for the neck or composite overlay that has good heat insulation properties, the problem with good conductors like steel is they can be very cold to touch, a gig in cold weather or in a cold hall may really cause a persons hands to cramp.

Good luck and well done

There isn't enough room on the headstock for a 'Fender Precision Bass' decal.

Interesting design and looks well executed. Well done! I don't know your plans for this invention (what kind of business you want to make from this bass) but best of luck.

I honestly can't say without actually playing it, you know? So I'd definitely try it out...only then would I be able to say what I think about it.

Wow, way to think outside the box. Soundwise I think its great. Very interesting design too. Looks like an elongated lightsaber crossed with a battle ax(and that's awesome). As others have said my main concerns would be the round neck. As well as the steel body if I was playing in the cold. I would love to try this out though. Best of luck wherever you take this

Thats a pretty snazzy design but I STRONGLY encourage you to rethink the neck size / radius / spacing issue. Bass fingerboards have been trending flatter for a while now and for good reason, its easier on both hands (them old classical players were right all along it seems..) Completely flat or nearly flat fingerboards are now quite common for basses.

I like it. Don't think it's for me, and without knowing what it feels like to play it, I do have hand concerns, but you were playing some very difficult stuff and didn't look like you were struggling with pain. I think you did a nice job and I think you'll get some interest out of it. Respek!

Looks really interesting! I'd love to know the design process and thoughts behind the various elements (most importantly the 1.5" radius neck! ) Great work!

Kudos for trying something new! Would definitely try it.

What kind of radius is 1.5? Like a can of coke? Just so I can picture what the thing would feel like.

I'd be interested in trying it out, but honestly the YouTube video didn't really impress me. I want to hear the whole range of its sound, not just one little jazz groove. If the tonal range is big, it can have a lot of applications. If all it gets is that one jazz sound, its niche is going to be tiny.

Very interesting, I wonder if it might be more comfortable than a flat-fingerboard bass for guys who mostly play DB.

Hey Stanislaw, first of all I want to say that I have serious respect for your willingness to think outside the box and try something new in bass guitar design. That being said, I feel as though the extremely small radius of the fingerboard may cause issues in the hand and wrist from bending and tweaking into odd positions. However, if one of your creations ever makes it's way to Southern California, I'll be sure to give it a test drive. If the design proves to ergonomically sound, then bravo for creating something new and cool for us bassists to GAS over
