Is this a real Gibson?

Hey guys, in my Ebay perusing i stumbled across this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321090476782...84.m1423.l2648

Doing some quick research on Gibson SG's i havent seen another one like this one, and the control plate gives it an old Japanese guitar look. Can anyone confirm or give me some more information on this? Thanks!

Looks real to me. That would be a Gibson SB-450.

It is, it's a SB350 from the early seventies (I gues 1971, since it has the 2-point "evertilt" bridge opposed to the later 3-point bridge)

Yeah, it could be an SB-350 or 450. The only difference is that the 350 is short scale an 450 is long scale. Hard to tell from the pics which one it is.

Awesome! I dont have alot of knowledge on old Gibsons.

What is the going rate on these? Something tells me alot more than i want to pay, but damn that bass looks great.

They're a little less regarded than the usual EB-3s so probably not as expensive as you'd think.

Check out the fly guitars pages for more info.

It should have serial number somewhere and if it does, you can look it up on this data base:

These are among the most affordable vintage Gibsons. From what I've seen, these sell in the $500 range.

It's definitely the short scale SB-350 (you can tell from bridge position), so save your money!

Sold for $416.26.

Did you bid? You wouldn't be getting into a vintage Gibson for much less than this.

Nice. Very Nice.

I would love to try that one. One thing that I'd add is that vintage Gibson necks are always guilty until proven innocent. I have never held one in my hands, but I have seen so many with damaged/repaired necks. This one appears OK, but the photo is just a tad - a tad- questionable with the reflections and that label placement.

I absolutely agree with you on the neck. I noticed that, too. But with ebay's return policy, the seller (no rookie to ebay) would have to be insane not to divulge that info.
