I noticed that Pino was playing his black Jaguar, and Roger Waters wasn't playing his signature model either. The telecast on Palladia ended before Sir Paul took the stage. How was he, did anybody see? |

And did anybody notice G.E. Smith playing bass behind Waters?
The bassist backing up Billy Joel (local Long Island player, I hear) did a good job as well.
+1 on not enough camera time for Pino, and a HUGE +1 for Willie Weeks' performance - he was tearin' it up! That pre CBS (?) Jazz sounded awesome.

But my favorite of the night was Willie Weeks during Claptons set. It was like funky Cream. Wish they had played and stretched out more.

Played with a ton of people like Alice Cooper, Dokken, Rainbow, Ted Nugent and also was in Billy Joel's broadway show "Movin' Out".
Full disclosure: only reason why I know so much about him is because I was good friends w/his sister. |

Paul used a hand-painted LP for a song (couldn't pick out what all the designs were), an Epiphone acoustic (one from his stable I guess) tuned to do Blackbird, another LP (I think it was his very scarce lefty sunburst LP from the '50s), a Martin acoustic, and some crazy little box-shaped, four-string thing for slide when he played with the Nirvana guys.
I thought everyone performed well, although I walked away to do important things while Kanye was on. I thought The Who's set was terrific. I assume it was Zach Starkey on drums -- fabulous!

Yeah, Kanye was not good at all... That was 15-20 minutes (?) I'll never get back.
I agree that there was a definite need to have a Hip Hop artist on the bill, but he was the WRONG choice. His song choices (talking about suicide & toasting scumbags & d**chebags - really?!? At a benefit?!? Seriously?) and his overall demeanor were just out of place & uncalled for.
IMO, Jay Z would have been the logical choice but oh well...
Back on topic, there was plenty of good bassists & tasty playing to keep me happy... And I'm GASsing for Willie Weeks' Jazz!

Alicia Keys was actually incredible and I have never been a fan.
