I agree that there was a definite need to have a Hip Hop artist on the bill, but he was the WRONG choice. His song choices (talking about suicide & toasting scumbags & d**chebags - really?!? At a benefit?!? Seriously?) and his overall demeanor were just out of place & uncalled for.
IMO, Jay Z would have been the logical choice but oh well...
Back on topic, there was plenty of good bassists & tasty playing to keep me happy... And I'm GASsing for Willie Weeks' Jazz! | I've yet to see a Kanye appearance where he didn't act like a complete fool. Sure, he's playing HIS music, but have at least a LITTLE class. |

He had an opportunity to do the right thing here (and not to mention win over a LOT of new fans in the process), but he blew it.
Again, IMHO...

And even so, I'm sure retaining acts like McCartney & the Stones would cost a little more than "H to the Izz-O, V to the Izz-A" would.

Loved it! DVRed it but I will definitely get the Blueray when it comes out. |

| | | | Jon BonJovi has lost alot of his vocal range, but the band sounded ok. They didn't show Hugh much so I couldn't tell what exactly he was playing. Didn't look like the Carvins he endorses- Fender or clone as near as I could tell. +1 on Willie Weeks tearing it up. BTW, Gruhn's has a few of his vintage pieces for sale on their website.

No Ma'am, I'm not as talented as the other guitarist in the band. That's why he gets six strings and I only get four.

I don't have a problem with rap really, I don't like it but I don't have a problem with it. My problem is doing rap live, it just boring, expensive karaoke. Bruce was Bruce, if you like him he was fine. I don't so couldn't care less, I missed Bon Jovi. Alicia Keys was really good, not stuff I listen to but I have mad respect for the talent and performance ability. I thought the Stones phoned it in and were extremely uninteresting. And honestly, turning Jumpin Jack Flash into a 7 minute song?? Really??
Eric Claption (and his backing band) were amazing. It was just a splendid display of three guys who are really masters of their instruments. Just raw talent on display, loved it. Crossroads was really good but strange for me to listen to, as they changed the entire beat, accent and feel of the song. Excellent, just different.
Then the Who went on, and I damn near $h!t my pants. I saw them about 12 years ago literally knowing nothing about them. They are one of the top live acts I have ever seen. IMHO they blew everyone else who came before them out of the water. Even through the TV the sound and music and spectacle was absolutely amazing and very intense. Pino was excellent BTW, I watched with my dad on his sound system and it really brought out the bass clearly.
Like I said, Kanye sucked and I went to bed. But to me it was The Who as the top bill, Clapton second but not that close, and everyone else FAR behind.

Looked nice, whatever it was!
EDIT: Oops, Ray beat me to it!

But hey, for the first time Garry T got almost 100% time on camera. Very cool to watch, and I learned a thing or two about some of the licks I didn't know before!

My now famous ’59 Fender Precision is back at home at Hartke’s 48th Street Bass Lounge after being played by Greg Smith with Billy Joel at the Sandy Relief Concert on Wednesday. It was the first time this bass has been onstage since its complete resurrection by the great Pat Clark of Clark’s Custom Finish and Restoration in New York. Thanks Greg for immortalizing my bass at that landmark event! Here’s before and after pictures of the bass.

Pino rocked hard with the Who.
But Willie Weeks stole the show.
Great playing and tone with Clapton. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
