Resonant Deep Sound Electric Bass?

hi friends

Im new to bass and at some point I will buy another bass besides my Ibanez 4 stringer which has active pick ups.

Based on my musical interests, I expect that I will want a bass that best approximates deep resonance like a stand up bass BUT of course I know it will never be the same.

So I was wondering which bass brands or models in combination with the right pick ups may deliver that deep resonant effect more than other electric basses?

My vote would go to Gretsch hollowbodies. Their Electromatic line has some new hollowbodies (not semi-hollow) which are very nice.

The 5123, 5440 and 5442 are all under $1000 new and will give you classic hollowbody sound. Here's a link to listings at GC: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gretsch-...Bass.gc?ipp=25

I have a 5123 and it's a great bass, but with flatwounds it requires tweaking up the highs and mids to be clear in the mix.

Rob Allen Mouse would be my choice.

A fretless P-Bass strung with LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass (nylon tape-wounds) would get you pretty close. Bump up the bass and low-mids on your amp. Turn down the highs and high-mids. Play at the edge of the fingerboard.
