Today, I finally had the chance to try a couple of Reverend basses for the first time. I've always loved the looks of these instruments but they've never made their way into my little slice of the universe until now.
I didn't get the model names but the ones I tried were the jazz-style, with two rail humbuckers and the one with a rail 'bucker in the bridge and a mudbucker in the neck.
I enjoyed the matte finish on the neck - the playability was excellent and they both sounded pretty good with both fingerstyle and slap playing. I also found that there was a wealth of tones available thru the combination of the tone knob and the blend one... Here's the thing, though: the volume difference between the two pups on both guitars was significant, especially on the one with the mudbucker. Is this a usual thing with Reverends, or did these two particular instruments just need a good setup?
Overall, I was pretty impressed, I must say. I'm going to have to consider replacing one of my basses with a Reverend one of these days.
Fingers > PBass > Amp. That is all.
