My Drummer, Guitarist and I basically auditioned him and Vice-Versa. We all agreed to put a show together and He already has gigs lined up. He complimented the sound of the Ric about 10 times. It really did sound great through the LH1000 & Avatars. The Ric is all completely stock with Factory strings. I was able to dial in the perfect amount of growl just by tweaking my Tone Knobs. I am Stoked I realised I won't be needing my Milk Box Compressor because it all sounds great as is.

When using the bridge pup control, I generally find about 65-75% full to be my favored range.
Plucking style and location make up the rest of the tonal equation.

i play a '77 thin neck 4001 with chrome flats, C standard tuning and a relatively low action (slight buzz on open low C for tonal purposes) so it is easy to get it to the 'dead straight' neck level. |

The price differences are crazy. A new 4003 goes for over $3500 US here. I ended up paying $1900 US by importing and because the seller declared it as a used item I didn't even have to pay import tax! | 484 Welcome to the club!

| | | | RIC 4003 I'm new to the TB forums. My RIC is a 4003 Mapleglow, left handed, but I had the factory string it as a righty. I've played righty's upside down all my life and finally sprung for a lefty model. The only noticble change is the trussrod cover. I asked RIC for the upswing version. Best bass I've ever played since I started in 1964.

So I had to take out the whole pickup out and I unscrewed it from the bottom. Now I have it like this where I filled in the empty space with this plastic bit that also came with a thumb rest.

Not really a Shadow, but a Jetglo 4003 (possibly a late 4001) with a black replacement pick guard. I see more and more contemporary artists choosing Rick basses.
