I finally tried out a 4003 at my local store. was very impressed with the tone, it was clear as a bell in the upper register with a nice warm low end. good variety of tones too. rics are definately not a one trick pony as some people who have never played one think. the bridge pickup cover has to go though, i found it was just in the way of my picking hand.
i found the stings a bit floppy, the guy in the shop said they were low tension strings. i assume they were the factory strings. i tune in e flat. would a thicker guage of string remedy this?
i asked them about ordering a jetglo one and they were very vague about when it would arrive - they said anything from 3 weeks to 3 years! thanks in advance for ur help

Rickenbacker is a pretty small operation and they produce instruments in batches of the same style, color, handedness, etc., so it could be a while before they a run of Jetglo 4003s...or they could do one next week.
I'd suggest ordering a Jetglo and looking for used 4003 in any color to tide you over. You should be able to sell it, if you want to, for pretty close to what you paid.

The pickup cover sucks ...
The floppy strings means it needs a better setup. Probable the nut is too high.
If you want a new jetglo the online stores will have one in stock.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.
I had a question about Rick bridges. I am looking for a Rick bridge that is 5 string. Does anyone know of one that exists? I am thinking about making a Rick inspired 5 string lefty bass in tuxedo white. I started a thread over here, and would love comments.

I don't think you'll have an issue dropping flat on your stock strings. While the stock strings are not high tension, I would not call them low tension either. A truss rod adjustment will most likely be needed as well as a pup height adjustment.
I dropped my 2011 4003 to DADG. I really did not like the floppy down tuned E (Circle K balanced tension in close to stock diameter) I went up to a .112 and bingo, instant happiness! Great tone and playability
This is the quietest I've seen this thread since I subscribed. Can we at least get some more Ric pr0n going in here?

Here is my new Ruby at practice for the first time. Tuned it BEAD.
I didn't like the she was playing, nor did I like the noise that the Ric was picking up from the lighting so here she is the next day:
She's newly shielded with a fret level and crown, nut cut to exacting measurements, and saddles as well. It is now strung with the .142 balanced set of Circle K's. Plays like a dream, and much quieter.
I had my 4000 shielded a few years ago. It didn't seem to make much difference unfortunately. But whenever i start playing i no longer hear the hum anyway. (Its mostly played in a loud 3 piece rock band)
That is a beautiful bass,i love the new Ruby!)

Yeah it won't make any difference with the single coil hum, but I'm hoping it helps with the other electrical interference. The PU's were picking up a lot of noise from the lighting at our practice space. I'm hoping for the best, but we will find out for sure tomorrow night.
Check out my Ric-O-sound clip, all done in iOS!! The clip by itself is nothing special, but I did want to try Ric-O-Sound tone using only iOS stuff. So, 2 iPads, Apogee Jam, iTrack Solo, Amplitube iOS and Jamup XT. Recorded on Multitrack DAW. The Sansamp in the picture is only used as a DI (mic input on the iTrack Solo)
It sounds you're toggling the HPF cap on and off. What did you think--was running all that extra wiring worth it to have ROS, or in iOS is the A/D input processing already producing a good enough sound quality that it doesn't gain you much? It does sound like because you are running ROS the pickups are not scooping each other.
I don't really understand your signal path--do you mix the iPad outputs together with that Focusrite box in the picture?
EDIT: I also wanted to ask, do you have much trouble with clipping/headroom? I hear a little distortion now and then. Good job though, it is cool to see the iPad really put into action.

I use the HPF only once. During the clip I toggle between neck- bridge - both.
I'm not totally happy about my tone in is clip as there is about work to do with the gain stage. As you say I have some clipping in some part.
My iPad mini get both signals from my Focusrite box. But using one iPad form applying more distortion only on the bridge pup is not ideal. I do get really good ROS tone by putting my Grombass distortion pedal in between the bridge pup and the Focusrite box.
I did try this ROS thing with only iOS just to test if it is possible.
