It sounds you're toggling the HPF cap on and off. What did you think--was running all that extra wiring worth it to have ROS, or in iOS is the A/D input processing already producing a good enough sound quality that it doesn't gain you much? It does sound like because you are running ROS the pickups are not scooping each other.
I don't really understand your signal path--do you mix the iPad outputs together with that Focusrite box in the picture?
EDIT: I also wanted to ask, do you have much trouble with clipping/headroom? I hear a little distortion now and then. Good job though, it is cool to see the iPad really put into action.
This is a more proper way for ROS with iOS:
I've mentioned earlier my Grombass distortion pedal.
Here is a clip of my Grombass. I use my Ric 4003 (on vintage mode) and the ROS function.
Now, I do not have a proper bass amp, so I amp emulation in iOS/ iPad. I use Jamup XT software and as said the Redhead.
I use the Focusrite iTrack Solo which have to input channels. Both channels are mixed in Jamup.
So, bridge pup is going through the Grombass before going into the left channel of the iTrack, neck pup goes directly into the right channel.
March 1986 Rickenbacker 4001v63 equipped with Thomastik Infeld JF344 strings. God I love this bass. Pretty p0rnographic, at least to me:
Someone start a Rickenbacker dot-inlays-and-no-binding-club!
A black and white photo; but it makes want to see a Ric in dark grey metallic or gunmetal or something... There are a lot of interesting colors I'd like to see on Rics.

Not sure if I should post this in the P+E forum, but I have a question about my '76 4001. I've noticed that the A and D strings are significantly louder than the E and G. And it's the same way with either or both pickups. I've done the cap bypass mod on the bridge pickup.
In effort to try and get more out of the E string, I tried raising the E side of both pickups, and although that did bring the volume of the E string up quite a bit, it also had the effect of making the A string insanely loud, so much so that it's farting out the input of my amp.
Is there any commonly known way of bringing up the volume of the E string or dropping the volume of the A and D strings a bit? I am so in love with my Ric that I'll just live with it if I have to, but it would be awesome to even out the volume a bit

Well you could replace the pickups with the ones they use now that allow individual pole adjustments.
Had to order a new nut from pick of the ricks. The piece was 6.00 and shipping was 9.00. What a ripoff.
I had similar complaints when I ordered my truss tool. I got it lightning fast, but I have no idea why CC can't just put these small parts in a stamped envelope and call it a day. Liability? I have no idea.

Now, that is one great looking Ric!
Top horn isn't waaayyyy to small like all of the new ones, it's just perfect, the headstock , although period correct isn't all mis-shaped like the new ones. I checked out a few new Rics, just for the heck of it a couple of weeks ago and the only thing I really liked was the full width inlays but the top horn was way too small, the headstocks are all wrong in terms of a decent shape and the finishes were all TERRIBLE. More waves than Lake Michigan on a windy day.
If I were interested in getting a Ric, I'd be looking for an example like this one or and older 4001 from the 70's or early 80's. The new ones do not impress me at all.

I don't know. If I were to put it in the smallest available priority mail box and ship it, it would be 5 bucks. I'm not sure where they get the 9 bucks from.
I put something to that effect in the comments for my order and got no response from them, so I'm assuming they don't care.

4001C64S Flat satin black in the For Sale section.
Imagine it with a black pg.

I get why you are annoyed but see where you can find it cheaper for combined price and shipping. Ultimately $15 for a nut is not bad at all. The only cheaper alternative I can think of is a local guitar tech who stocks the perfect part which is pretty much guaranteed not to be the case.
Well, I ordered myself a black pickguard for my Jetglo. I'll get some before and after pics once it comes in.
On another note, I'm having some trouble getting that really snarly, nasty Ric tone right now. It's kind of tame & polite actually. It's currently strung with a new set of Rotos. I'm thinking the pickups needs to be closer to the strings but I'm not positive. If anybody has more ideas, I'm all ears.

In another thread, Armybass was raving about how EB Cobalts made his Ric sound gnarly and awesome. I'm not a rounds guy, so I personally wouldn't know.
Raise the bridge pup, turn down the neck volume, crank your amp's gain, play right over the bridge (or right in front if you have a cover) and RAWK!

I use D'Addario nickel XL roundwounds on mine. Sounds excellently nasty. I usually use just the bridge pickup.

The new 4003's body/top horn shape is very very close to the size and shape of the early 70's 4001's. My 73 4001 is nearly identical to mu 2011 4003. RIC has tweeked the body, neck, and headstock slightly over the years. My Shadow and Black star were made in the mid 80's and have the "chunkier" upper horn.

I shipped a pickup to Portugal a few years back to be rewound for $7.50 Canadian.
I realize everything has gone up, but yikes!
$9.00 to ship a nut is a bit much.
Minimum shipping charge perhaps?
I see the nut is listed in the RIC boutique at $6.00, used to be $3.00.
Their string prices have dropped considerably, though!
I haven't looked there for a while.
Must buy some RIC bass strings soon!
