Just beware the older style bridges on these are supposedly more prone to the "lifting" tendency. People seem to be evenly divided about the look of the reverse headstock. (I'm on the "con" side, myself) I would compare the prices for V63 models, which i think tend to be a bit less than this. ($1800-2000)
Edit:just saw a v63 on the bay for an even higher price, although i doubt it will go for that...bottom line, the "s" series seem to command a pretty good price, and these models have the better (imo) pickups,as well as the nice unbound contours, and are relatively rare, especially since they're not currently being produced.

Midnight Blue goes from black to purple to bright electric blue at times. | hmmm, i had heard it was only the jetglos that would do that, but apparently I was misinformed. must be the finish they use. I didn't see any orange, although that may have been too much for my poor brain to register at the time, anyways!

It was a smash hit in my town at the time and it made me laugh a lot back then, but I felt sad when I didn't find it that funny after watching it again more than 20 years later. |

I've seen them as high as $3000 but never much lower that $2300. I love the dot markers, lack of binding and the reverse headstock. Note that the tuning machine also are reverse, so your first instinct in tuning will be backwards. But my '59 P bass also had the reverse gears and you get used to it.

Oh and also does anyone know how many were made roughly? | Here is mine. i actually own two. This one and another project 4002 produced in 1977. It's a bit rough but it will be a diamond next year when Larry Davis gets finished with it.
The 4002 is a beast! It growls with authority and with little effort. Huge tone and a neck that fells like it was made for my hands. This Walnut is the best sounding bass I own and have ever played.
