Yes, like a Jazz and P Bass in one, with a ton more attitude. Special humbucking pups in both locations. Studio XLR output as well.

Admired the sound, whether Squire or Lee or McCartney or Stinson or Meisner. When you hear a Ric, you instantly know you're hearing a Ric. I'd stare at photos here or on eBay... But just wasn't sure a Ric was me.
Early last week, a friend let me borrow his 4003 (blue boy) for a couple of days. I returned it to him, then almost immediately placed an order for a 2012 ruby red 4003. It's on a UPS truck now. (In my mind's eye, the truck is surrounded by a police escort, lights flashing.)
Yeah, I'm excited. Will be coming back for a number.

| | | | Ric 4003 replacement pickguard options I've googled, and couldn't find my answer so i thought i would just post here.
I cracked my pickguard on my 2010 4003, and am wanting to replace it. All parts has https://www.allparts.com/PG-9849-044...rd_p_2803.html and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these pickguards? I am actually interested in the white one, but they don't have a picture of it.
Will it fit my 2010 4003? I realize that i would have to add a couple of screw holes since this is a two piece guard, but i am ok with that as the original pickguard would cover the new holes if I decided to have one custom cut later.
Thanks in advance.

Wanting more Rickenbackers...
Although, in my mind, that's not a real problem other than financially.

I'm not playing now, and will not likely ever need more than a couple of basses, so there will be a sale some day after the book comes out.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: White Plains | | | I'm in need of some help. I'm looking into the possibility of getting a Ric 4003. So far I've found two that I really like, but I'm having a hard time finding all of the info on what to look for and what's considered good. I've read about tail lift, the truss rods, different neck profiles for different years, and all kinds of other things.
1: 1986 4003 Mapleglo BH/BT. At least I think it's Mapleglo, and it's got the black hardware and black trim. It's one of the better playing Ric's I've had my hands on. It's not in the greatest shape cosmetically, and some of the pots are scratchy. But overall it's pretty nice. I really like the color combo with the black trim/hardware too. The tail of the bridge isn't sitting flat on the body, but it's about normal from other Ric's I've seen. They want $1695 for it, but I'm sure I can easily get them down. I'm not sure what would be considered a good price anyways, but I'd probably start at $1400 and see what happens. I think it only comes with a bag too, no HSC.
2. Newer (no idea what year, but I'd venture a guess to say 08'+) Mapleglo. I can verify the year with a phone call. It's the lightest Ric I've ever touched, in very good shape, and plays great too. They want $1699 for it, and I'm not sure that I'd be able to get them down but I could certainly ask.
3. 1992 Jetglo. I can't play it, and all of my worries with the 86' are basically the same with this one. It's the cheapest of the bunch.
I like the older one quite a bit, especially since you don't see that particular model very often. I'm wondering if 86' wasn't the best year for Ric's though. The newer one is really nice too, so I'd have no issues going for that one.
Any insite? I've read through a bunch of the megathreads and other sites, but I'm having a hard time finding the info. Thanks!

I'm still curious about the 86' though.
