I know, believe me. I did the math between gas mileage and overnight delivery. Overnight was like $10 more, and to me it would have been worth it since I wouldn't have to waste my whole day.

However, since I'm so close to them I might get it tomorrow anyways...from ground shipping that was free.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. I've got gigs next weekend too, so it'll certainly see some action no matter what. Trial by fire!

Since nobody's answered you, you need to post a picture of your Rick and request a number.

NICE!! Chris is Aces!! I drove down there twice and once I came back with a 4002! Chris brokered a deal between myself and the owner of the bass. Great guy and full of RIC knowledge. if I were to buy another new RIC, it would be from Chris.

I definitely agree so far.

I added it to my cart this morning, then got sidetracked with work for the better part of the day. When I got back, he had sent me an email asking if he could answer any questions about the items in my abandoned cart. I asked about weight and neck profile and within 5 minutes I had another email with the answers.

After it was ordered, I got another email asking if I would like him to install the treble bezel while he's going over the bass and giving it a setup before he ships it out.

Today, I removed a treble pickup cover and installed a treble bezel for the first time. Was surprised what a pain it was (though wouldn't be as much so the second time). Nice that it can be done for you before ship.

I have to agree with the holds a setup like granite. My 86 4003S/5 is rock solid. I have barely touched it in months since getting an early 80s 4003S and it's solid still. Or, play the hell out of it for months and still rock solid. Put a RIHS on one and man... BOOM. I wonder how a RIHS would work on the 5 string, if it's even possible.

I only have 2 80s model Ricks. My first Rick was also a late 80s model. Something about that era tends to attract me.

I do want to sit down with one of the new ones though. I still haven't seen one up close.

I would say that it is a rather simple operation.

Guess it depends on your baseline. Mine (previous experience with Fender-type basses for the most part) didn't quite prepare for me needing to mess with the pickup and pesky springs and things simply to remove a small piece of metal. Sure it would seem less of a pain if/when I do this a second time.

I also had only "Fenders" before I got my 4003. So , yes things were a bit more complicated with the Ric, at least on the very first time.

May I get a number?

Here's my '76 4001. Took out the capacitor, looking to put in a push/pull someday. Also switched out the pickup ring for a 4003 version.

Learn the history of Rickenbacker and you will understand what it is all about.

I have a question regarding truss rod/ relief adjustment and maybe maxed out truss rod.
I've a 4003 Ric from 2007. The I've noticed that in that last week the relief of the neck for "worse", thus from almost flat to too much. I tried to adjust the relief but I feel quite much resistance on the truss rod under the D and G string, while the one under the E and A string is moving easier. First I just try to see if the truss rod is stuck, so I did turned it the opposite way and it did move, but trying to tighten the truss rod again and I felt again too much resistance. Can you see form this picture if the truss rods are close to be maxed out? Or is it an other reason why the this truss rod is difficult. Btw, there is NO Ric luthiers or such in north of Norway, so I do need to fix this issue by my own.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

You may want to take that rod out and examine what's going on. This is exactly what my former '04 4004Cii was doing until the rod snapped at the nut. There may be something binding in that channel.

What's the going price for a blueboy? I've decided that another Ric is most likely in my future and it's between a blueboy and a Ruby Red.

Sold my Ruby finally on the bay... To be real honest, it is the last time me posting something on the bay. God, they rip you off with fees on every end they can !!! However, I am sure I sold the bass to someone who will be very happy with it !

How do you take it out? I mean, is it "easy"?

Easy? Yes. Take the strings and pickguard off the bass. Remove the TRC and remove the TR nuts, then push the rods out through the body side of the neck. Some people remove the acorn nuts from the heel end of the rods and then push them out of the headstock but I don't think it matters as the rods are not unidirectional except for which nuts go on which end of them. There should be either tape or heatshrink tubing around the rods, the tape is usually the reason the rods bind, sometimes. Replace with tubing; search YT for a video that shows how the rods are created and installed by RIC, it is a section in a vid showing a tour/history of Rickenbacker. Joey's Bass Notes will give you required info too, search for that, also.
