Not sure if anyone here on TB got it but I saw a 4001 JetGlio Ric for $1399. Didn't list a year or anything so i wasn't sure. When I called yesterday it had already sold. Sounded like a good deal.

If it has no issues other than a swapped pickup, scoop it up quick!
1960s Ricks are worth some very serious coin to collectors.
Be wary of a refin, that usually hurts the value.

May be a really great player bass though, late 1960s/very early 1970s basses are supposed to be pretty special.
Never had the chance to play one myself.

Model 4001, Serial Number HD 894, Mapleglo, checkered binding, toaster neck pickup intact, bridge pickup has horseshoe cover, but pickup is not original. Does not have original case.

Determined to be a scam on another forum when investigated.

Yeah I saw that too. I am getting MF emails again as I just got the Epi T-Bird Pro IV. They figure they've got a live one. LOL

just got a beautiful azureglo '77 rickenbacker 4001 imported to new zealand from the states. even came with a ric-o-sound box! so happy with it - needs a bit of a setup after the shipping process, but it is easily the best bass i have ever played.

this is a club i've been wanting to join ever since i registered for tb, i would love a number! ha.

Somewhere many pages ago I mentioned taking my 4003 to a jazz jam (I usually play hard rock on it) and getting lots of attention, and that led to a conversation about Rics used in jazz, and I remembered seeing Stanley Clarke using one somewhere.

Well, I found it: Return To Forever (w/Bill Connors) 1974 - YouTube

It is a Jetglo, but it appears to lack a neck pickup. Would that make it a 4000? The vid is from 1974, very cool. Stanley Clarke on a Ric, and Geddy only got his that same year!

ETA: This vid looks to be from the same show, you get a better view of the instrument starting around 3:35 or so. It has dot markers on the neck as well as a single pup. It also appears to have no binding: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=cQzMulHaW4s

Here's one more clip from the same Return to Forever show, Stanley Clarke shreds out a solo on the Ric starting around 8:20 and goes on for about 2 minutes. Good stuff.
