Rockinbetter or Rebelrocker if you live in Austraila, made in China in the Tokai factory. think the newer 22 fret ones are made in the korea tokai factory.

I have a Rockinbetter and i do get that McCartney/Lemmy sound. has a really good tone and bags of sustain.
if your looking for a Squires sound you would need to fit flats to get near his sound.

Jazz bass ... turn all the knobs to 10 and roll of the bridge pickup enough to get the single coil tone.

I build my own frankensteined parts basses and I put pickups in the Rick positions. Bridge pickup 4" to 5" from the bridge and the neck pickup in about the 24th fret position. Also basses with a maple body and a maple fretboard get closer to that tone. The 4 band Audere preamp can help, it has high and low mids. Boost high mids to get the Ricky clank.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

I scan the midwest Craigslists every day and they pop up very fequently. Cost ranges from $150 -$500. Usually between $250-$350.
