Rickenbackers with Chequered Binding

Can anyone tell me what Riks have the 'chequered' binding, was it on certain models, certain years or both?

Or perhaps was it an optional extra?

pre july 1973 4001 and 4005 basses

4002, 4003 Shadow, and 4004LK have it too

Apparently it was an optional extra in the 80s to get checkered binding. Although I've never seen one with that option pics or otherwise.

There are a few floating around out there. I specifically remember a 1982 4001 WHT/CB. There are several special-order guitars with it as well from the early 80's.
