I could send you the price if you really want it

I really like the R8 Concept, but green wouldn't have been my first choice either.

Only a few months before my new R8 arrives

I really don't want it, but I'm very curious If you feel like shooting me a PM I wouldn't mind

I love the green, goes insanely well with the fretboard color. And as much as I love the Late Lounge finishes, we've seen quite a few of them by now. Well, maybe I would like purple even better...

I'm sure you must be seriously lusting for your R8 by now...! Hang in there!

^ for real? Is it April 1st already?

The skeptic in me says 'not real', but with the Jens you never know! It's a cool idea, however, I would have thought there would have a more elegant solution. (Think The Edge's infinite guitar)

As a player, wouldn't you rather have three Ebows stuck together with appropriate spacing that you'd hold in your right hand?

War of the Worlds anybody?

Last one

Jens had some nice pieces of spalted maple when he returned from the States. I chose this one for the top of my R8-Singlecut 4-string.

Hello,
I asked this question in a separate thread on the forum but it keeps getting burried, perhaps some actual owners can chime in and shed some light...

Jens' fretwork - WTH IS GOING ON THERE?

It's impossible to not see that his frets are finished flat (no crown!). This goes against everything I and everyone else I know has ever been taught about fretwork, so why/how is Jens doing it? He or his instruments would not have the status/reputation they do if they had playability or intonation issues. So...

I can't figure it out, and it's driving me slightly mad.

Hi,

No need to go mad
the frets are not flat at all. Apart from the custom alloy gold frets, Jens' frets are quite normal, with crown.

Has Jens possibly changed his methods at a given point? Or is it a strange effect of the way his product shots are taken? On a number of pictures, it really jumped out... of course now I can't find REALLY obvious ones... but you can see what I mean in these:

http://www.ritter-instruments.com/item_info.php?i=227 (2nd last pic)
http://www.ritter-instruments.com/ar...-phil-lesh.php (2nd last pic)
http://www.ritter-instruments.com/blue-dragon.php (5th last, closeup of the headstock/nut area)

It also looks like it's the case with basdyret's photos in part 1 of this thread: -Ritter Owners Club-

And I seem to recall (I think, TB member R.I, from Japan giving a first hand account of the flat frets... oh, here it is -Ritter Owners Club- - that top is awesome)

They look pretty flat here too, http://ritter-instruments.com/item_info.php?i=543

I have 2 Ritters at the moment and they do have different frets.
The golden frets on my Cora are indeed rounder than the chrome frets on my R8. But the flatter frets are not completely flat. They do have a crown.
On some of the pictures they seem flat, but that's because of the way the pics are shot or the lighting.

I also asked Jens about this and he says he absolutely doesn't use flat frets.

Thanks for the clarification frizzle. I've seen people suggest that he just doesn't re-dress his frets off the Plek, which i simply could not buy!

And the gold wire is awesome! It's standard on my builds.

See now that one is awesome. A lot of super high-end basses are a bit too "stylish" for me but that one is gorgeous.

Ok, so I met Jens yesterday at The London Bass Guitar Show and I was playing a 5-string Cora with an eBow and he said he'd made a concept 3-string bass with an eBow per string. I said I'd seen a pic of it on this forum and had assumed it was either a Photoshop joke or a Jens joke a la the Motown "Bass"... He said it's a real, fully-functioning instrument - no joke! Here's a picture of the "German Joker" with some other bloke who apparently makes pretty good basses...

Would really like to know more about this bass.

Hey Big Red, you're right that the sound is more intense over a pickup, but this "bass" only has a bridge piezo. An EBow does work without a p/u under it, but the sound is very smooth & bassy and notes takes a while to develop.

#2 in the slide show is the nicest - but then it's entirely possible that I'm biased

Quick snap from the London Bass Guitar Show last weekend - nice selection of Ritters including a brand new R8 that Jens just managed to finish in time for the show!

Hey, my serial is #107 it looks like Jens updated his site with some more info including my build sheet! Sweet! I did not realize mine was such an early bass. Congrats to all you new owners, love seeing the new basses, a few extra Roya's wouldn't hurt though
