just thought in mentioning about the Flying Pig over Battersea Power Plant, at the intro and Eclipse (DSOTM), at the end of last night Olympic Ceremony.
Pretty cool to know they mentioned Pink Floyd. Somehow, not only because I am a fan, but it does make me like the RW bass a little more than the 100% I already do. BTW, tonight we have another gig and I am spiritually ready.
Take care

I am not sure whether it is normal or not but mine is not shielded at all. No paint (like in my Squier P) or copper shield or anything.
I am not really sure it is supposed to be like that or if that can affect the bass tone.
What do you guys say about it?

Should I do anything about it? You can literally see the wood...
So is it the infamous MIM debate we see so much around TB? The same model but clearly two different qualities?
BTW what is that hole both basses have on the upper right corner under the PG? What is it for?

You can find it even on some US series.

So I have been thinking a lot lately and I guess that after 1 year and a half of Roger Waters with flats (fist Roto 77 and now LaBella, BTW the best between the three if I include the set of GHS Flats I have on my Squier VM P), it is time to try some rounds on! As for the rounds, after trying some different sets, I know the one I want are the Roto 66. Now my question is to those, if any, that have tried the Roto 66 with their RgW bass, what are your impressions?
Well, I really hope the change will improve my sound. It is awesome now but I am looking for something new. I guess I want to give it a shot to rounds. Never even played with the stock strings on but at the shop.
Take care all!

I have adjusted the saddles height just a tiny bit. What I did notice is lesser relief as if the neck has got "straightier". Did a first sound check playing fingers and pick and rolling the tone on and off and I have to say I am really impressed. The SD QP sound big with Rotos. Played through a Trace Elliot Commando 1x15. Tonight we have reahearsal and I am really looking forward to it. In the other hand I have been very pleased also with my Squier VM (Duncan Designed PB 101 - they say on their web it sounds vintage) and the GHS P flats on. Sounds real old school. I might be totally wrong but being personal taste at first glance I´d say the SD on the RgW sounds better with rounds. I will be putting the LaBellas DTB I had on the RgW on my Squier...
Take care

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Mar 2011 Location: Madrid - Spain | | | So here's my review of the Rotos 66 with our beloved RgW:
First of all keep in mind it wasn't a fresh set of Rotos. I had them on for a while on my Squier. I am waiting for new ones to arrive.
As I mentioned previously I had gone through the afternoon putting them on, adjusting intonation, saddles height and playing for an hour to get the strings to settle in. I had truly enjoyed it on my own.
At night we had rehearsal and as I mentioned previously it was the first time I was playing the RgW (and the SD QP) with rounds in a band situation. It was very easy to find the right EQ(tone). With flats I was running the gain on my Mag300 at about 9 o´clock however with the Rotos I went all the way up to 11. It was like with the rounds the SPB-3 would have or, even better, put out less output(some sort of booming that would be very present with flats).
It definitely gave a lot "sonic-tality" to the sound. The typical Roto growl was there and with the right finger/pick technique I was able to have smoothness and digging in I could bring out the all the growl/distortion out of the beast.
I did miss the sound of flats in some tunes. For that I just rolled off a quarter of the tone on the bass and I was satisfied with the result, giving a nice warmer sound where you can still appreciate the sound of steel but just very little and thus being very close to flats. In a live situation for me is ok but in studio I would definitely record those songs with my set of LaBellas DTB.
At the end a big thumbs up to the rounds. They are in and my final thought is that in the current band situation they fit just a bit better than the flats, I still think we are just too loud! LOL!!
Take care

If so, what are your impressions, which rig did you try with, how did you have the EQ on the amp when you did it.
I would really love to have the currently enough cash to invest in an All-Tube Head (am I saying Ampeg?... ;-) but I will have to wait so I have been thinking about going for the VT-Bass... since my current set up (and the Rotos 66) are just awesome I guess the valve feel would add that sparkle towards the quest of The Tone.
Take care all!

You are going to love the bass and the longer you play the better it will sound... I saw on another thread you were between the RgW and an American Special....!
Well, IMO you did better in buying the RgW and the guitar you bought with the spare money you had. The QP are awesome, specially in band mix and even more if you play with 2 guitarists... Also, I definitely love the chunky neck of our bass in comparison to the regular P bass neck of the Am Special series. The greasebucekt option IMO doesn't allow you to express the sound or rounds as flats. Anyways the bass player in a band where I play guitar has a, now discontinued, Highway One which has been replaced by the Special being the difference only that the H1 was nitro paint... Besides that, the quality of the RgW is awesome and has nothing to do with the MIA vs MIM thing you might read...
Enjoy you bass and play the hell out of it!!!!!!!!

Rotos 66 also sound awesome.... I guess, for me at least, the combination RgW and Rotos, either flats or rounds, sound really well.
BTW, I hope we get to 100+ friends/members on this club but not yet.... you are 12, unless you want that nº you have on your sig...
Keep on rocking my friend.....

I don't know what it is really but I really like the rotos to the Chromes. (I have a set of chrome flats on my Squire.)
