Rogue guitars?

Where are these things made? What company makes them?

I can't find a web site for them. Are they cranked out of the Samick factory? Second runs?

I'm not sure where they are manufactured but I've played one and wasn't impressed. Good for starting out with and honing your bass custimazion skills IMO!

Yeah, JT, bottom end. But they have their use.

I'm just curious where they come from. Maybe Musiciansfriend (who owns the name, it seems) just buys up a quantity and puts that name on it. Like Sears used to do with appliances (maybe still does) and the same manufacturer makes the same guitar for anyone with enough decals for the head stocks.

So a Rogue by any other name ...

I don't know who makes them either, but my daughter had a "Rouge" (love the common misspelling) electric violin. I believe it was made i China. We had to send the first one back but the second seemed to work alright, albeit heavy to hold. I didn't examine it in detail, but it seemed the workmanship wasn't too shabby. It had a nice finish and a maple veneer on the top that actually had a nice flame to it. Or maybe it was a photoflame.

But yeah, a lot of stores buy "house brand" stuff that only they sell, but others have bought the same thing with maybe a different doohickee attached, and labeled it under their own brand. This certainly isn't exclusive to the music biz.

Your probably right. I know MF owns them but I hardly believe that they make them too.

Of all the low end brands (Galveston, Robelli, Essex, etc) the Rogue's are the most erratic in terms of quality control (IMO, of course). Probably the best of this low end group is Essex (or SX, if you prefer), they seem to be most consistent (again, IMO) .....

They ain't Samicks, that's for sure. Newer (read: Greg Bennett era) Samicks are actually *gasp* GOOD! The Cobra's a pretty happening bass and I dig my Fairlane 6.

I played a few that werent shabby. As ive said before; sometimes a good manufacturer can make bad instruments (yes, im looking at you CBS era fender) , and a bad one can make good.

Made in Korea by Sungbo, and also sold under various other brand names, such as: Galveston, Brownsville, Venson, Hense, Marcus Martini, and Carlo Robelli...just to name a few.

They also make the low-end stuff for Hamer, Dean, and probably half the top brands you know and love.

It's not crap, but the pots (and sometimes the tuners) are usually junk.

All I've got is a conglomerate that seems to specialize in steel.

So unless there is a 3rd Sungbo, and their may be, the guitars are made by some kind of tax write-off subsidiary (Shades of CBS!!!!!!!)

I found this thread in a google search for "who makes Rogue Basses"..lol I have an LX400 Pro and I love it dearly. The finish is just beautiful and It's the best, most comfortable bass I have ever played. I have been playing for almost 20 years so I have dreamed in a music store or two. I ordered it and a rogue amp to play in my church orchestra because it was the only one I could afford. Fluke or not mine is great. (the amp, however has long since been replaced...)
