Rosewood vs Birdseye Maple

What are the pros and cons of each?

Any truth to "too much birdseye" being a bad thing?

I assume you are asking about fingerboards correct?

as long as the general grain of the birdseye piece is straight, you should be ok.

The pros and cons are subjective, and I personally like the looks of birdseye fingerboard over a rosewood one, unless the rosewood has a nice pattern and is more brown than black, like my 97 MIA

Maple tends to have that "snap" in the sound many players like for slap sounds and funky fingergrooves. Rosewood has a "warmer" more mellow sound, which can also be very nice.

I currently have a musicman with birdseye maple fretboard and I like it alot. I've had a bass before that has a rosewood fretboard, and I definately prefer the maple. It just seems alot smoother to me.

Okay, I'm reaching...
I plucked those bird eyes out and stuck them to my fretboard.

I've got 3 maple and 3 rosewood- and can't really tell a big difference in the sound. The tech who works on my guitars has said birdseye necks were more prone to warp, but I'm not sure if thats across the board or what. He had a custom guitar built and had the neck go to hell on him in the first year of playing it- but he also said he's worked on many guitars with birds eye necks that have held up great.
