What exactly is the tone difference of a rosewood and maple neck?
And while were at it do you prefer a rosewood or maple neck? |

There are too many variables to narrow the source down to maple/rosewood. I think most of the differences ascribed to maple/ rosewood have more to do with the glue joint a rosewood one has that most maples don't have.
I like the kind that are on great sounding basses, so that's rosewood, maple, and ebony. The individual bass is more important than details like this.

I prefer rosewood.

Not sure why; probably my (lack of) technique However, I just acquired a T-40 with maple - my first maple FB I`ve actually owned. After setting up to my liking,= no clicking. In fact, it also seems more resonant than RW and I love the way it feels ! May all be my imagination, may have more to do with the pups, electronics, etc. - comparing a T-40 to Fenders is not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison.

However, it was probably just the basses I was comparing more than actual tonal differences in the wood. |

| | | | rosewood looks darker, so it sounds darker. maple is bright, so it sounds brighter.
overall I like the darker one. she's more well-rounded and doesn't snap back as loud...and she' feels good in my hands |
