Best guess is around $1200 is a decent deal. If it is in great shape, much more! Check this out...

I agree. CMX has some of the most overpriced vintage gear you can find...I would never recommend someone trying to compare prices of what they own to what CMX has had on display for literally YEARS

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, BB66.

This is the worst thing I've read here since JPATApalooza. Good luck with your dilemma.

Everything was listed in the For Sale thread. Now, the buyers excuse for not viewing 70+ photos highlited in red within the ad is, "The pics wouldnt open, it said bad link".

The link did and still does work: http://s1326.beta.photobucket.com/us...irddy/library/

However, had you mentioned this before purchasing the bass I would have gladly made sure you saw the photos.

The routing was described within the ad, as was the sanding of the neck. Im sorry it has come to this, but everything was described and laid out in the thread.

I looked and the thread was closed and the pics were removed, even the link to pics were removed which i thought was curious. Now today, out of the blue, the thread is edited and reopened and the link to the pics is back up, like magic.
I'm fine with everything but the neck, which you described as "The back of the neck has been sanded ever so slightly to feel less chunky", you failed to mention the width had been ground down from 1 & 5\8" (precision width) to 1 & 5/16" (smaller than jazz width). The neck is unusable, it's like a mandolin neck.
There is a huge difference between sanding the BACK of the neck, making it flatter and filing the width of the neck, making it thinner.

I'm not here to sling mud or bad mouth you. Like i said in my PM, we'll let Paypal handle it.

If the seller was the original owner he is wrong for not disclosing the neck issue that's why it is important if you are selling vintage gear inform buyers you are not the original owner and you have no prior knowledge of any previous repairs. I would have ran when I saw an instrument selling for at least 1/3 the normal price even with the butchered route a 99% 78 P can get $1800.00 ?

I don't know exactly what is going on here, but that neck appears to be completely ruined.

Ok this thread is confusing but I remember seeing the thread.

Bass was listed here for sale, and also on craigslist where I saw it. It was said to be modded and the neck was mentioned as being shaven down in one of the ads I saw, cant remember which one.

The price was reduced from around a grand to $600.

That bass looks pretty horrid. A similar '78 P body that was hacked to death like that went for $55 on ebay last week, it didnt have original paint tho, id say that body is worth $100, if the bridge is original $60,if the neckplate is original $60, tuners $90 if original, pickup if original is worth idk.

All in all id have paid $300 bucks tops for that bass.Thats if everything I stated above was original, it would have been a parts bass and the neck would have been wall art.

To answer another question no a good condition 78 isnt $1800, its like $1300 tops.

The neck wasn't "sanded ever so slightly" it wad ground down by 1/4 of it's width, it's like a 3 string bass neck at the nut. The back is still round, he didn't file down the back, he filed down the width.

Yeah well just by viewing it the neck looks like crap,it looks like wall art to me.

I just viewed the whole album, that bass is worth $300 bucks, its worth that for parts like tuners, neck plate, the body is worth a little , neck is worth about nothing, its worth a few bucks to someone to hang on a wall.

Are you (buyer) in oregon?

I might have been ambitious in my estimate but here are few examples

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1978...item416e49f7eb

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1978-Fender-...item3f1d953269

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FENDER-1978-...item4d06f067d1

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-1978...item19d68ff96d

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-1979...item1c2c6a0427

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FENDER-PRECI...item19d1bf4a86

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FENDER-1979-...item4d06f0675e

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1979-Fender-...item589054014d

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1978-Fender-...item564989b7dc

I think the 70's era Fenders were shaky but people are still willing to pay for them my point was a good condition 78 P is worth more than 600.00
