Sign in to disble this ad
I've read thread about this for the last few years but i don't remember one who have clip of the same bass to help you choose...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj6r1TV7fMM

or

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OF_ec...ext=1&index=38

in the second clip, the first 3 minutes you here the bass in the mix and at 3:35 you can hear the bass alone...

have fun

Tough to do a direct comparison when one bass is by itself and the other is in a mix. I guess 'll vote maple, though.

i personally like the look, sound, and feel of maple better than rosewood.
something about a pbass with a maple fretboard just sounds right.

Maple is beautiful on bass BUT after I have played maple, rosewood, ebony necks...I honestly have a predicament....Playing for 33ys and recording MANY times, the best sound I had gotten with tones and sweetness was the Rosewood then ebony and then the maple....at times the maple was too bright, even though I had too reset eq....but it sounded good. Rosewood just had the warmth and tones that were more usable for more diverse sounds. Just my humble opinion.

I agree that rosewood is great for recording, but live....just not sure

Maple is sometimes too agressive for recording but live, there's just this little detail in the high-end that makes you cut through the mix, IMHO

Not a fan of maple on a P, though I own a '73 P with a maple neck. On a J, yes, I prefer it for improved punch and brightness, but on a P, I think there's a noticeable warmth and thump in the tone with rosewood.
