Great point Tully.
Love Roger and Sad Team, still rocking your old Sunburst single coil!
Cheers

Actually, that's *very* close to what I did. It took six years, but my Sadowsky is on track for delivery within the next couple of months.

Eh, I think they are a bunch of chumps. That Kevin fellow - offering to pick me up a coffee as I played in the instrument room. And that Roger guy - chewing the fat with me about photography gear... those guys are just nutz.

Yeah! Imagine them being all 'nice' and stuff. Makes a guy mad, you know?

It was the mid-90's, I was a poor college student in a remote corner of the world wanting to improve the sound of his crap-electronics Washburn bass.

Roger Sadowsky treated me like a pro, answered all my stupid questions and then some with great courtesy, offered keen insight into my troubles, and delivered a top-notch product (the sadowsky outboard preamp) to my door.

Should the funds (and the will to spend them on a bass ) ever become available, I'm going for a Sadowsky. If the guy treats his instruments even half as good as he treated me, a noname from nowhere, it will be the best jazz bass I'll have played.

I met Roger when...

Way back in the 80's I was introduced to Roger by John Miller. (amazing NYC studio bassist I was a beginner on the bass and Roger treated me like a rock star (and like I knew what I was doing)
True story...
I had found a NOS '68 Gibson EB-2C in a music store near Montclair St. College and I had taken it to Roger at his downtown shop to get set up. (Before he moved to midtown) I waited a week and went in to pick it up. I was met by a very exhausted Roger who explained that he had been working around the clock fixing guitars for Prince and my guitar wasn't done yet. He was very embarrassed and he kept apologizing and rambling on about how he had to put fiber-optics up the neck of Prince's guitar so it would shoot purple light out the end of the neck. The guy was dead on his feet. Then he asked if I had a gig, and if I needed to borrow one of his basses. I very calmly explained that I was a hack on the bass and I didn't have any gig lined up this week, or the week after.
Roger looked at me and said something to the effect of "That doesn't matter, I told you it would be done in a week and I let you down."
I told him to get some rest and I would see him next week when I picked the bass up.
True story, no exaggeration.
