sadowsky metro vs fender custom classic

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, I'm trying to learn about jazz and jazz inspired basses. Two that interest me are the metro's and the fender custom classic's. I know all the specs etc. But as I have never seen in person either one, I would be interested in comments as to the general fit and finish, quality of woods, electronics, harware etc. neck profile comparisons etc. Any info appreciated.

they both are great basses. I started a thread maybe a week ago on the opinions about the sadowsky rv4 vs. fender custom shop 64. the cs 64 is quite different than the custom classic though. I have played a custom classic and i have played a sadowsky rv4. they both are top notch quality IMO. I LOVED the way the custom classic felt and played. it has an active preamp on board as well as the metro. the fender had a lot of growl and clarity down low. the sadowsky rv4 was really good too. There are quite a few videos on youtube of the custom classic jazzes that are pretty good and represent the tone pretty well. both basses rely on their preamps and electronics for their sound, not so much on their passive tones. as for the neck profiles, i didn't spend a lot of time with the sadowsky, but the custom classic had a great feeling neck, typical fender jazz feel. the wood is pretty much the same on both too, just your standard alder or ash. that's one part of the metro's, they are not made with custom or exotic woods, just a good piece of alder or ash.

Hi and thanks for the response. I read your thread with interest. It seems like either should prove to be a quality instrument. There were no mentions of the neck profiles. Have there been changing profliles with either instrument over the years? And how do they compare?

For me it's a Sadowsky over Fender every time.

For more traditional look I'd go for fender that's about it.

For tone, play-ability, craftsmanship I'd go for Sadowsky.

It's always a Sadowsky for me.

yeah me too.. i love Fender and own one.. but if the choice was there i would take the Sadowsky.. They just have a better rep.. and overall you know you have no worries with construction etc.. then theres that superb preamp... its an ace in there arsenal

Roger and his team know how to make a quality bass at any of there price ranges.. MIJ/CIJ Fenders come close though.. and when you consider the price..

Thanks for all the replies. I'm leaning to Sadowsky RV4. The only thing is if the neck is slim enough.

I think you will be fine with the neck. It's probably a typical jazz feel. I know the rv4's have a 12" fretboard radius, which is even flatter than most fenders
