Sadowsky NYC or Metro

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Guys, I would like to invest in a Sadowski. The problem is I live in the UK. There are only four stores who deal in Sads and I live absolutley miles from any of them.

I played a NYC Vintage 4 about three months ago, I loved it.
Have any of you guys got both (NYC and Jap) and could tell me the real difference from a players point of view as apposed to a manufactuers.

If there is really not much difference I would be keen not to shell out the extra $2000, but, I will if the difference is sustantial,
thanks in advance.

There are many threads on this a quick search will give you too much infoI DO NOT own one. I have however played both. They were both exceptional instruments. I am very anal about fit and finish and playability. Both were flawless in this regard. In my opinion there is not 2K worth of difference. Unless you are having one custom built to your liking, Otherwise I would do a Metro. Both of the ones I played were 4 string . The NYC had some big pickups on it (not sure what type) The Metro more traditional. There is a good reason why people love these instruments. They are at the top of the bass foodchain.

There are some differences, for example the NYC basses have chambered bodies and therefore weigh a little less, but IME these differences are negligible.

So, I agree with Roger Sadowsky himself, who says that you should get a Metro unless you absolutely gotta gotta have the custom options (colors, woods, etc) only available on the NYC basses.
