Sadowsky PJ5.....nail vintage P?

Sign in to disble this ad
I own a Sadowsky Metro RV5 and I'm thinking of adding a nice passive P bass to the arsenal. I'd consider selling my RV5 to buy a PJ5 if the PJ5 nailed a vintage P bass sound (in passive mode). Should I bite the bullet, keep the RV5 and buy a good P bass or sell the RV5 to buy a PJ5. Can anyone chime in?

HI

I have a pj4 and a pj5 and they sound amazing. You could grab one and even run it passive but I doubt you will!! Good luck

But does it nail the JJ both pups full on sound? I think Sadowsky claims it gets VERY close, but I've always wondered if and how that could be true.

I did somewhat the same thing. I wanted to have a modern Precision sound to substitute my '75 Precision, and even though the Sadowsky Metro RV4-HPJ I got sound amazing! It is very different from the P sound... So, in my opinion if you want to nail that passive P-bass sound better get a Precision.

Keep the JJ5 and get a passive P. The Metro PJ5 is its own thing, neither a JJ Sadowksy nor a P bass. Between the RV5 and a great P-bass, you're covered.

My NYC PJ5, ash/maple, strung with Flats (sometimes a foam mute even) sounds EXACTLY like a Pbass, and I"ve had pre-cbs/custom shop/etc. I think what makes a Pbass 'a pbass' has more to do with the pickup position/wood selection than whether or not it says 'Fender' on the head stock.

Of course, with both pickups centered, and the bass/treble control boosted, it can sound MARKEDLY different than a pbass. Not to mention the killer back-by-the-bridge Jaco tone it can nail. 3 or 4 basses in one package!
