Sage green Fenders

Sign in to disble this ad
So I always drooled over a sage green Jazz bass at the Tampa guitar center that was a floor display/demo model for a Roland pickup... Then came across one two years ago and bought it...

The paint on mine was chipped on one of the edges pre-purchase and I have always wondered about the paint itself. Most Fenders I see online have the normal paint overspray or complete covering inside the pickup holes and control cavity.. Most have the serial number sticker in the neck pickup pocket. After having mine apart recently for an electronics replacement I found that mine looks like it has a clear varnish or lacquer over the serial number sticker and it feels very thick. On top of that the chip area on the body you can see what looks like clear then some sort of black base and then the green.. And the paint feels very thick...

Did the mexican Fenders have thick paint or is mine possibly a repaint? Or even a possibe factory redo of green over another color?

Sorry for the crappy iPhone pic..
