That sassy bass...
Do you have a bass that doesn't like to yield to your whim? One that maybe has more than you can tame but rewards you in spades when you do? Maybe on this bass you feel more creative but there is an underlying struggle.
If so, what is your bass and what makes it so sassy?
Mine is a Schecter Diamond P 4. A monster that has to be tamed. It wants to provide more growl and sustain than I'd like sometimes. Even after muting it still has something to say even if it is vibration in the wood. It doesn't always have my favorite tone in mind but responds well to touch and absolutely sings mid neck. Often I'll find different ways to squeeze out what i want to hear when it wont comply. Despite any fighting I seem to pull off cooler licks so i practice on it more often than my jazz. Not sure what it is but I really like this bass. It's a rewarding tool but its a sassy one.
If it doesn't want to comply you should stop .
I used to have a `71 Tele bass that was a struggle to play.
It sounded good, but the neck was like two Rick necks or four Jazz necks lashed together.
Just unbearably huge and had a bit of a twist.
Before that I played a 1976 4000 exclusively for about 10 years. It had a fair bit of neck dive, so that I had to anchor the body with my right forearm on the upper body bout and still had to wrestle with the neck when moving around a lot.
It still plays like a dream (action-wise) and sounds awesome, though.
