Satin neck on CV P bass

Sign in to disble this ad
So I liked the glossy neck for a while, but once the weather started to warm up, my hands started sticking to the neck so today I decided to go over the neck with 0000 steel wool and then go back over it with some rubbing compound and a polishing cloth and got a real nice satin finish on the back. Loving it now!

I kept the back of the head stock and front glossy as I didn't want to mess up any decals.

Whatever poly Squier uses on these necks is tough! It look a good amount of elbow grease to start dulling the finish on it, and had to use several steel wool pads, but in the end it was worth it.

Here's a shot of the neck.

What kind of rubbing compound did you use?

Just curious.

It's just called Turtle Wax Premium Grade Rubbing Compound. Says it removed medium to heavy oxidation and scratches.

I just did the same thing last night with my SX:

It didn't take a whole lot of effort to get it dull. I don't think SX uses a terribly hard finish.

I left the front of the headstock glossy, mostly because the tuner bushings were too hard to remove:

I didn't use any wax/rubbing compound. Do you think that would make it feel any smoother?
