It looked over 9000 years old; paint coming off, dents, chips, gloss in some places, satin in others. I asked the guy how old it was, he said it was brand new!
"Ahhhh... they must be doing some vintage mock up thing, make it look pre-loved." I thought.
Can't seem to find it on their website though. And it was a proper fender; had fender on the headstock, costed $1000+, etc.
So what's the point of this thread? I dunno let's just talk about basses...

I reckon the best part about having a beat-up ol' bass would be the stories behind it, and the love and determination in keeping it. Not only does a roadworn say that your love goes as far as your money, but it's also like being born one day, becoming old the next, and having no stories to entertain the grandkiddies. |

Same situation with those for and against relicing and the hype over beat up old vintage basses. In my personal view, I don't like Road Worn Fender's, I do however like a vintage bass that shows its mojo through battle scars. Whether those old basses actually play or sound better than they do today is another story. I'm talking cosmetics.

| | | | Roadworn basses seem great. They feel better than their MIM non-worn counterparts, IMO. Some say they sound better.
Their six string Strat brothers, however leave something to be desired... the CNC programming error that mis-aligns the neck pocket & tremolo route completely sux. |

How is Fender being dishonest?

Takes a while, but it's very cool to see it go through its mellowing process over the years. And of course, cosmetically it gets worn in just the right places, fitting how you play and the way you hold the instrument like a comfortable pair of shoes. Nothing else like it. |
