SB14 purchased, needs setup?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a new SB14, first online musical instrument purchase. I don't usually buy stuff like this sight unseen but I had to pull the trigger for the ridiculous price Amazon had on it.

I think the build quality is very good except for a few minor details: screws on the pickup selector seem forced in at an angle and stripped a little, and some screws on the pick guard have a tiny bit or rust on them. Cause for return or am I being picky?

Does anyone know if adjusting the action and neck relief YOURSELF voids the warranty? I looked at the SBMM site and think that it will not. The bass feels awesome all around, I don't even know where to start on the excitement of owning this bass. I think the only real "flaw" I can feel on the bass is that it's difficult to slap/pop strings, but I hope this can be fixed with adjustment of neck relief and action. I mean of course that's the obvious answer but I'm concerned if it has high action out of the factory then perhaps it's trying to hide some flaws pertaining to uneven frets or fret buzzing? Maybe I'm just used to the super low action on my Peavey Zodiac BXP. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience with their SB14 regarding high action. Thanks!

Setting up your bass won't void the warrenty. These videos do a good job explaining how to do it. Get a paper and pencil and take notes, buy a couple of the proper tools, take your time and have fun. It really is easy.
