Schecter Diamond J?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just noticed this. It was in the "jazz bass" section of a website. Aware that its miles behind anything Sadowsky, Lakland, Mike Lull put out, but it def stands out from the Schecter catalogue. Anyone have one? Tried one?

I've never heard much about these, but I'd be interested. If it's at all like the Model T or the Diamond P, it's probably a pretty nice instrument.

I saw the Diamond P as well, how does it stack up to the mim standards?

Well, I chose a Diamond P over an MIM P... Overall I find the playability to be the same. The neck on the Schecter might be a tad thinner. However, they do sound quite different. The P pickup on the Schecter is a lot more "mild" than the stock Fender one, but I find it's more versatile, especially once you dial in the bridge humbucker. Overall I'd say fit and finish is superb on the Schecter, and the Dark Blue Metallic is gorgeous.

Not quite sure if it's the same but I briefly owned a Schecter Diamond Series California Custom J 5 string. Not a cheap bass at all! Had all high quality hardware, EMG pups and pre! While not a Sadowsky, Lakland or Lull, it wasn't too far behind. Sold it only because I already had 2 other Lakland 5 strings and it just wasn't going to get played!

Pics here.

Damn, whoever got that one was lucky! I really wanted one of those years ago, but couldn't afford it.

I just sold a Diamond J in the clasifieds. I haven't picked up a very recent MIM Fender, but the Schecter walked all over my mid 1990's MIM p in terms of hardware, construction, etc. High(er) mass bridge, better tuners, tighter neck pocket, pretty much every tangible facet. The gloss neck seemed a tad "stickier" than my P, but nothing bad.

Mike

i've had two diamond J's and loved them both.

i'm really an alder/rosewood kinda guy, which is why i sold the second (had a maple neck). i kinda wish i would've kept the first one though.

the quality of those basses are amazing IMO. both of mine were MIK and played as well as an American Fender.
