Hey all, looks like Schecter is adding a 5 string Diamond P for 2011. And it is 35" scale. http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazin...11_Models.aspx

I *just* put an EMG 40P5 (a 5-string Precision pickup in their "40" 5-string soapbar housing) and 40DC 5-string Dual Coil combination into one of my Spector ReBop 5 DLX FMs to mimic the pre-2010 Fender American Deluxe Precision V 5-string, which with its P/DC pickup setup and Active Preamp is the only P-Bass I've liked in any way, which is sounding quite close to the original Fender setup (given the very nature of the clean EMG Tone, which is why since this "Testbed" experiment will be followed up by a Nordstrand NP5/DC5 setup, which they've also said they could replicate in EMG-sized housings ) But if it hadn't, the Schecter would have been a quite reasonable work-around. |

(it would look much cooler with a 4+1 or 3+2 headstock IMHO)

| | | | Saw some in local store this afternoon after work. Ok for fender style body bass I geauss. But shecters done enough original body shapes that they could have avoided the "make a fender looking P neck pup bass" and instead gone with omen, stillito, avenger, or other more original shape imo.

I picked one up today at a local music store for $549. I've only played one nicer feeling bass, a Music Man with a roasted neck- for a GRAND MORE. I've had a Fender Jazz (Geddy Lee Japan) and a Rick 4003 before switching to a five, and this bass feels as good or better than those.
Yeah, I'm probably biased because it's here, but check one out sometime. Classic P Bass shape and great sound too. |

The string spacing measures 19 mm at the bridge, but I played a Squier Jazz 5-string a couple of weeks ago and it seemed huge. The Schecter doesn't. I'm used to an Ibanez that measures 16 mm, and this is a pleasant change for some reason. |

I have a Yamaha BB 5 string I modified to have 19mm at the BRIDGE, but the neck narrows nicely down towards the nut so it doesn't feel as much of a strain on the left hand as the Squiers/fenders can.

I've had it for over a month now and I'm more in love with it than any bass I've had (so far.) So much so that I've decided to unload my Ibanez, Peavey, and a Carvin acoustic that sits behind my couch like a dustball. My next bass will be a Model T. I have a perfect (to me) 5 string, and I figure the Model T, black with maple FB would be nice.
The Ibby and Peavey have narrower string spacing, which I thought was good for my child-size hands. 19mm suits me just fine.
This bass is fantastic. |
