Schecter Diamond P Custom - First Thoughts

Sign in to disble this ad
So I popped into the local GC on my way home from work today to say hello to one of my buds (one of the good GC emp's), and of course he decided to tempt me. Obviously it didn't help that I showed up as they were unpacking the shipment.

Here's the link: http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....LAID=480241954

They had the new Schecter Diamond P Custom (on in Black on White and the second one White on Black). No question that I had to give it a test run. I have to say first, that in the last few years that I've been a bit disappointed personally with the Schecter offerings on bass (I used to have a few in years past).

But I was pleasantly surprised. Constructed well, tight. Finishing looks sweet. Plug it in, and it gets more fun. The neck is slender and easy and fast. The P pickup meets expectations. The bridge pickup - which we could only sum up as a "double jazz pickup" was a nice touch - adds a monster punch and really, makes a great combination with the neck p'up.

I didn't want to put the bass down, I almost took advantage of my $50 off coupon. If they had the dark metallic blue (w/black pickguard) I might have come home plus one bass.

All in all, a total win! Nice to see a Schecter that I would like to own. I am looking forward to sampling more of the new Schecter line for 2010!

Cheers, Gus

Nice. I've been GASing for a Fender or something but I might just have to look at Schecters again.

It's actually more slender than the typical P neck. Forgot to mention that. Not necessarily too tight, but not open and roomy like a P. I found it very comfortable to play, and I tend towards a 19mm string spacing.. I am not sure of the spec on that though, exactly.

I'm definitely picking one up, just torn between the white and the dark metallic blue. The blue looks fantastic, but there is just something about a white p-bass for me... we shall see.

I dig it to..... It's just missing a maple fretboard but I would not mind having another schecter.

I've come to like Rosewood fretboards lately. Thanks Eagle - leaning towards the white!

The black and white is classic. I don't think you could go wrong. I like the blue, but I think I'd get tired of it.

I recently got 2 of these guys in my store as well, but I have to say that I was slightly disappointed, but then again I'm kind of cynical towards "new" P & J basses.

They played well, but i just wasn't impressed. Maybe I saw it & just got too excited thinking it MIGHT sound like the old American Deluxe P bass with that fatty humbucker at the bridge... mmmmmm so gooooood.

I'm really interested in these basses. I hope they get one in my local GC so I can test drive it.

So did you ask them if they'd price match a coupon that you're not sure about or do you have a link?

That's what I did, my store is closed on Sundays, but GC is going to honor the $100 coupon of course. So $399 here I come!

Purchased it earlier today after work! Short answer for a short time of ownership? Really liking it! More after a week or so.

I have two gigs this weekend, it will be out at both of them!
