The BO pick ups sound really really good! No nasal sound and very clear and crisp sound. I am 100% satisfied, although I would like to play a Hellraiser Extreme and a Damien Elite.

Interesting to hear the comments about nasal tone. I noticed that too on my Stiletto Studio 8. Being new to 8-string, I thought maybe I just needed to get used to the sound of the treble strings. Now I'm thinking I should consider switching out pups and/or preamp.

I read up a lot on the PU before making this purchase. Do you have EMG's in yours?

that is the main reason I didn't buy the hellraiser. I read from many forms that they sound nasally and compressed. Im sure if you change your PU out, the bass would sound awesome.

These look almost exactly the same aside from finish and amount of knobs...

Will post a pic up sometime in the next day or 2. I currently have 2. Both have black hardware and pup upgrades. Currently a friend of mine is borrowing the 1 with a half fretted neck and hipshot trem but will post up a few pics of the other one.

I think the hellraiser in the red burst looks wicked. Now if the sound's right (meaning to meit can atleast cop a halfway convincable p tone) I would play it if I ever came across one. Other GAS priorities right now though...

I voted for the Hellraiser Extreme, largely because of the control layout-- the 3-band EQ, along with the 2 Volume controls (I hate pickup pan controls) AND coil-splitting capability makes for one solid, versatile instrument.

FYI, I'm strongly-considering the Hellraiser Extreme 5 as my first 5-string. Tried one at a Guitar Center and LOVED it!

I agree, is it possible to throw a 3 Band EQ in the Black Jack? Or would you have to change up a lot?

You could easily throw a 3 band pre in there. Just do a concentric knob and you don't have to do much at all.

Brand wise I really like Bartolini. I have a NTMB 918FL pre in my Roscoe fretless 6 and love it. They have a few different model 3 bands with concentric knobs. Don't know all the names off the top of my head right now.

I do recommend the bass to anybody to at least try it out! If you hold it in real life you will not think its a cheap piece of garbage! I hear you on the Nasal sound, that's why I went with the Black Outs.
Went to drummers house last night and installed the EMG's with the BQC control.........awesome. Gonna take some getting used to not having that wimpy flat tone coming from the OMEN and actually being a solid part of the mix.
